Bannon's removal took place pretty much the same day the Syrian government attacked with chemical weapons a rebel-controlled town, killing 72 people, including 11 children, and 4 days after the Trump administration said they would not go after Bashar al-Assad, Syria's leader.
According to The New York Times, Bannon's removal was actually signed yesterday, after the Syrian chemical attack, but it was revealed only today.
The removal was orchestrated by Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, who replaced Michael Flynn as National Security Adviser. A member of the Trump administration also claimed Bannon was put in the National Security Council to keep an eye on Flynn.
So why didn't Bannon step down after Flynn resigned two weeks after getting the job?
And yet, Bannon's people don't want the public to view this as a downgrade on Bannon:
Another official close to Mr. Bannon insisted the move was not in any way a sign that the president had lost confidence in him or wanted to reduce his portfolio. And as evidence he will still play a role in national security decisions, the aide said that Mr. Bannon still maintains the highest level of security clearance in the West Wing.
Right, not a downgrade when he gets removed after the Syrian attack. A PR move then? And Trump doesn't tweet anything about it. Well, that should tell a lot about it.
