DAY 25: Trump's Commerce Secretary Wilbus Ross has manufacturing interests in Mexico

Today Mexican newspaper El Universal published an article pointing out to the fact that Donald Trump's Commerce Secretaru, Wilbur Ross, has interests in the autopart manufacturing business in Mexico.

Data from the US Labor Department shows that Ross is the founder and stockholder of Automotive Component Group (IAC Group), which bought in 2006 Lear Corporation, one of the main autopart manufacturers operating in the border state of Chihuahua, Mexico.

IAC Group's website shows they have 8 manufacturing plants in 6 Mexican states: Coahuila, Sonora, Nuevo Leon, Puebla, Queretaro, and Estado de Mexico.

In fact, IAC Group's website published a press release in May, 2015, announcing its new plant in Arteaga, Coahuila. The press release reads:

IAC President and Chief Executive Officer James Kamsickas took part in the inauguration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by employees, customers and local dignitaries. With the addition of the new 90,000-square-foot (8,361-square-meter) Arteaga operation, the company now has eight manufacturing sites in Mexico, increasing its footprint to 81 manufacturing locations in 19 countries. IAC is also supported by a ninth country location, a customer technical and engineering center located in Toluca, Mexico.

It adds:

Including the new Arteaga plant and three other recent company plant expansions in Mexico, IAC is in position to support the automotive industry’s continued growth in the country. According to a 2015 IHS forecast, approximately 25 percent of the world’s additional new vehicle production is expected to take place in Mexico over the next five years, equating to approximately 5 million vehicles per year above current production by 2021.

Ironically, Ross has been a critic of NAFTA, even though NAFTA is what allows his IAC Group to be one of the biggest autopart manufacturers in the world... manufacturing in Mexico.

As to how much does Wilbur Ross control IAC Group, well, a year ago a company called Motherson Sumi wanted to buy IAC Group. The one person they approached to buy it was Wilbur Ross.
