Remember when the failing @nytimes apologized to its subscribers, right after the election, because their coverage was so wrong. Now worse!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 29, 2017
That's a lie. The New York Times never apologized to Trump. Not only that, that lie was debunked back in November of 2016.
You see, Trump said that lie for the first time on November 13, 2016 in the following tweet:
The @nytimes sent a letter to their subscribers apologizing for their BAD coverage of me. I wonder if it will change - doubt it?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 13, 2016
Politifact fact-checked the tweet and it was 100% false. Here's what Politifact said:
Trump’s tweet is a distorted and over-the-top description of a Nov. 13 letter to readers from the New York Times’ publisher and executive editor.
The 200-word letter primarily serves to thank readers for their loyalty and to say that New York Times will "rededicate" itself to the high journalistic standards it has employed thus far.
Nowhere in the letter did the authors write anything like an apology. Nor did they say that the organization’s overall coverage of Trump was "bad."
A spokesperson for Trump tried to spin Trump's lie by saying he was referring to the fact the letter says it underestimated Trump's chances. And that is NOT an apology by the New York Times. Not by a long shot. Trump is simply lying.
The fact is, aside from the fact that the polls were within the margin of error, Trump didn't win the popular vote. By a lot. So there was no underestimation. Trump got lucky. Period. And he lies when he says the NYT apologized to him.
Regardless, a few hours after Trump's March 29 tweet, The New York Times posted a tweet denying they had apologized to Trump.
.@realdonaldtrump False, we did not apologize. We stand by our coverage & thank our millions of subscribers for supporting our journalism.

And by the way; as per the "failing" tag Trump always attaches to The New York Times, turns out the NYT is doing better than the Dow Jones, with almost twice the percent increase in value as the Dow:
Dow since Trump won: +13% (+4.7% since in office)$NYT since Trump won: +29% (+8% since in office) https://t.co/IoqQuiWEKi

Which means Trump's tweet was actually a double lie.
