Trump, of course, offered his very own bullshit excuse for the change of venue: that he would be saving money for taxpayers:
Rather than causing a big disruption in N.Y.C., I will be working out of my home in Bedminster, N.J. this weekend. Also saves country money!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 5, 2017
No, it does not save money to fly Trump to New Jersey in Air Force Once, with the Secret Service in tow. On the contrary; it costs millions of dollars to have Trump flying to his resorts every weekend.
And in case you're wondering if fear of protests is the real reason why Trump is going to his resort in New Jersey, the answer is, sure, but an even bigger reason is the fact that, according to MSNBC's Steve Kopack, Trump is promoting that particular resort in New Jersey on TV:
Oh, and now the signage and landscape belonging to Trump's for-profit Bedminster club is all over television. Pretty good advertising.

So technically, Trump is using taxpayer money to boost promotion for his own private resort.
