Trump says he would be "honored" to meet with Kim Jong-Un

In an interview with Bloomberg published today, Donald Trump said he would be "honored" to meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un. Verbatim:

“If it would be appropriate for me to meet with him, I would absolutely, I would be honored to do it,” Trump said Monday in an Oval Office interview with Bloomberg News. “If it’s under the, again, under the right circumstances. But I would do that.”

And he went even further:

“Most political people would never say that,” Trump said of his willingness to meet with the reclusive Kim, “but I’m telling you under the right circumstances I would meet with him. We have breaking news.”

Of course most political people would never say that. Kim Jong-Un is a ruthless dictator who had a family member (an uncle) killed for criticizing him, does not accept freedom of speech in his country, and threatens other countries with nuclear attacks.

But for Donald Trump that seems to be fine.

By the way: When I was writing the entry about Trump inviting Rodrigo Duterte to the White House, I actually deleted a line that went like this: "What's next? Trump inviting Kim Jong-Un, or an African warlord, or Marine LePen to the White House?" But then I thought "nah, even Trump wouldn't go that far."

Oh yes. He would.
