Trump's support has been falling at a rate of 1% per month: FiveThirtyEight

Nate Silver's FivethirtyEight.com published an article today showing Donald Trump's approval has been slowly falling at a rate of 1% per month.

The article points out that if Trump continues to fall in the polls, by the 2018 midterms his approval will be in the mid 20s.

Which is a pretty big deal if we consider presidents get to that point late in their second term, not less than two years into their first term (the exception being Nixon, who was at 25% by the time of his resignation).

The mid 20s that would support Trump no matter what represent about 61 percent of his supporters. That suggests a lot of Republicans would either not vote for Trump, or vote Democrat in 2020 just to get him out of office.

Which is why Trump is so bent on doing rallies with a few thousands of people. They create the illusion of massive support for Trump when in reality, in terms of votes, they don't mean anything. In the end, the Republicans willing to go to a Trump rally no matter what are 61 of less than half of the voters in America. That's millions of voters, but not enough to win the presidency again.
