DAY 235: Trump did not have a legal justification for bombing Syria

After a watchdog group sued to force the Trump administration to disclose its legal justification for bombing Syria after the Assad regime used chemical weapons, the White House did not produce any legal arguments to respond.

Instead, according to The Intercept, the White House turned over a series of public statements from the Trump administration and praise from media outlets such as Fox News.

From The Intercept:

In response, the administration on Friday released nearly 60 pages of responsive documents, none of which contain any legal reasoning beyond what appears in the White House’s public statements. The Protect Democracy Project has published the documents on its website.

The documents consist mostly of transcripts of the administration’s public statements, briefings, and press conferences about the strike, as well as emails from a Justice Department spokesperson that are almost entirely redacted.

Which means Trump's response to the question regarding what was his legal justification to bomb Syria is basically "just 'cuz."

In the end, it should be remembered, the bombing was just for theatrics, as the Trump administration informed Russia about the bombing and it did not hit the runways, which were used again the next day.
