But the plan backfired. Three Republican senators openly said they would vote against the plan, since a simple repeal without replacement would leave 32 million people without health insurance and premiums would double. As a result, the Repeal and Delay plan failed.
So now that Trump lost twice in two days, his brilliant plan not is to let Obamacare fail because, he claims, that way the Democrats will reach out to him. This is what Trump said according to The New York Times:
“It’ll be a lot easier [to let Obamacare fail],” Mr. Trump said at the White House, adding: “We’re not going to own it. I’m not going to own it. I can tell you the Republicans are not going to own it. We’ll let Obamacare fail, and then the Democrats are going to come to us.”
Why would the Democrats go to Trump if the one letting Obamacare fail, and this leaving millions of Americans without healthcare, is Trump?
This sounds like yet another a pretty big disaster for Trump. He lost twice, and now he's just throwing a tantrum.
By the way, Trump didn't even know the Republicans don't have enough votes (60) for a full Obamacare repeal. First he tweeted this yesterday:
Republicans should just REPEAL failing ObamaCare now & work on a new Healthcare Plan that will start from a clean slate. Dems will join in!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 18, 2017
But then, after somebody told him he was speaking out of his ass, he twetted this:
The Senate must go to a 51 vote majority instead of current 60 votes. Even parts of full Repeal need 60. 8 Dems control Senate. Crazy!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 18, 2017
Which is, again, another tantrum.
