DAY 248: TRUMP LOSES: Senate Republicans cancel vote on Trumpcare

Seneta Republicans cancelled the vote on Trumpcare after it was clear they do not have the votes to pass it.

According to The New York Times, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell claimed they would try to change the American health care system at a later date, but they “are not going to be able to do that this week.”

DAY 247: TRUMP LOSES: Once again Trumpcare doesn't have enough votes in the Senate

Senator Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, issued a statement today unequivocally opposing the latest version of Trumpcare, thus leaving the bill without enough votes to pass it.

Collins's statement points to key parts of the bill, which cuts Medicaid and leaves pre-existing conditions without guarantee by putting them in the hands of the states, as the reason why she will vote against it.

DAY 245: Trump throws a tantrum at John McCain after Trumpcare fails and lies about Obamacare

Republican Senator John McCain announced yesterday that he would not support the latest version of Trumpcare, which meant the bill is pretty much dead on arrival. This morning, Donald Trump threw a tantrum and attacked McCain on Twitter as a result:

John McCain never had any intention of voting for this Bill, which his Governor loves. He campaigned on Repeal & Replace. Let Arizona down!

And that was just the start. Then Trump went on to lie about Obamacare as he latest attempt at taking away the healthcare of millions of Americans failed. He said:

DAY 243: Trump lies about pre-existing conditions on Trumpcare

This morning Donald Trump published a tweet in which he outright lied about pre-existing conditions on the new Republican attempt on Trumpcare:

I would not sign Graham-Cassidy if it did not include coverage of pre-existing conditions. It does! A great Bill. Repeal & Replace.

Again; that's a LIE. And AP debunked the claim Trump made that the new Trumpcare covers pre-existing conditions:

Trump stupidity: Blocks cancer patient and invents the country of "Nambia"

Lots of Trump stupidity today. First, he read a speech in front of foreign leaders in which he mentioned the country of "Nambia", which does not exist. According to The Wall Street Journal:

An overlooked vowel by the U.S. leader resulted in him praising the progress of “Nambia,” a country that some observers were quick to point out didn’t exist in Africa—or anywhere else.

An official White House transcript of Mr. Trump’s remarks was more forgiving, crediting him with referring to the actual country of Namibia, whose president, Hage Geingob, and deputy prime minister, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, were said by the White House to be among those present.

Right... So Trump can't read now?

But then Trump did something truly stupid: He blocked from his Twitter account a cancer patient who refuted this new Trumpcare plan.

DAY 188: TRUMP LOSES AGAIN: Skinny Obamacare repeal fails and Russia sanctions will be signed

Donald Trump lost for the third time in a row on his attempt at repealing Obamacare. This time Republicans in the Senate, including John McCain, voted against the so-called "skinny repeal", which would've repealed only some of the key parts of the Affordable Care Act, such as the individual mandate, pre-existing conditions and essential benefits.

Three Republican Senators voted against it, with McCain delivering the final and decisive vote against the repeal, for a 49-51 vote on the third Republican attempt at repealing Obamacare.

Trump prohibits transgender people in the military apparently to cover his Trumpcare failure

Just when the Republicans were about to fail at voting a simple repeal of Obamacare, Donald Trump tweeted this:

DAY 185: Trump loses hard: Trumpcare fails as 9 Republican Senators voted against it

Donald Trump lost hard in the Senate today, as he was able to get away with voting to debate the repeal and replacement of Obamacare by one vote (Mike Pence's, who had to break the 50-50 tie), but when it came the time to vote on the actual repeal and replacement plan -that is, on Trumpcare- nine GOP Senators voted against it, dealing a crushing defeat to Trump, with 43 votes in favore of Trumpcare and 57 votes against it.

After that vote, the Senate can still vote on amendments to the bill that might not pass the House, or a simple repeal, but three Republican Senators have already said publicly they would not vote in favor of a simple repeal.

TRUMP LOSES: Tries to repeal and delay Obamacare, but it also failes

So today the Republicans tried one last, desperate attempt at repealing Obamacare in the Senate. Since they did not have the votes to repeal and replace Obamacare with Trumpcare, Trump told them to propose a Repeal and Delay tactic in which the Senate would repeal Obamacare and not propose anything to replace it until a later date. Trump claimed that way the Democrats would be forced to negotiate.

But the plan backfired. Three Republican senators openly said they would vote against the plan, since a simple repeal without replacement would leave 32 million people without health insurance and premiums would double. As a result, the Repeal and Delay plan failed.

DAY 178: TRUMP LOSES: Trumpcare collapses

According to The New York Times, the Republican bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, known as Trumpcare, collapsed after two more Republican Senators announced they would vote against the bill.

That brings the total number of Republican Senators opposed to the bill to four, two fewer than needed to pass the bill with the tie-breaking vote of Vice President Mike Pence.

DAY 160: Trump lies about cut to Medicaid in Trumpcare

Donald Trump tweeted this today:

That's a lie. The Senate version of Trumpcare cuts Medicaid by triggering state laws that end the expansion of Medicaid and by using general inflation for its inflationary index, rather than the inflation rate for the medical sector.

DAY 159: TRUMP LOSES: Republicans had to suspend vote on Trumpcare for lack of support

Because of the fact that the Republicans don't have enough votes to pass Trumpcare in the Senate (even though they have the majority in the Senate), Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell was forced to suspend the vote he had planned for before the July 4th recess. Now, according to NBC, he will try to have the vote done after the July 4th recess.

Why is Trumpcare being rejected by some Republicans? Apparently, because according to the Congressional Budget Office it would leave 22 million Americans without health insurance by 2026.

DAY 145: Trump tries to distract the public after refusing to testify under oath and because of Trumpcare

Last Friday Donald, June 9, Donald Trump said he would "100 percent" testify under oath before Congress on the Russia investigation. Yesterday, Monday, June 12, the White House backetracked and said Trump didn't mean he would testify before Congress. In other words, somebody explained Trump that if he were to testify before Congress, he would commit perjury if he were to contradict James Comey, and if he told the truth about Russia, he would probably be admitting crimes.

So today, even though the one who is deep legal trouble because of James Comey's confirmation that Trump basically obstructed the Russia investigation, Trump posted a whole bunch of tweets trying to distract the public. Among them:

A.G. Lynch made law enforcement decisions for political purposes...gave Hillary Clinton a free pass and protection. Totally illegal!

Except Lynch never committed any crimes. Trump apparently did (obstruction of justice).

Trump admits Trumpcare as passed by the House will never pass

In an interview with Fox News, Donald Trump admitted the American Health Care Act (AKA Trumpcare) passed by the House of Representatives will never pass the Senate.

Fast forward to minute 4:21 (unless you want to hear Trump trying to change the subject from James Comey to the China deal that will hurt American poultry farmers) and you will hear Janine Pirro telling Trump point blank the bill passed by the House "may never pass" and Trump responding "I agree."

Even Trump doesn't want Trumpcare approved quickly by the Senate

White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Mike Huckabee's daughter, said in a press conference today the Trump administration is not in a rush to get Trumpcare approved by the Senate. According to CBS:

When asked if President Trump is setting a deadline for the Senate to pass its measure, Sanders said that the administration doesn't want to set an artificial deadline because she said the president is focused on "get it right, not fast." The House, however, voted on the GOP-sponsored legislation Thursday afternoon, just a day after revisions were made to it, and without a score from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

Oh really? So why is it then that Trump pushed Republicans in the House to approve Trumpcare without an evaluation from the Congressional Budget Office, without public hearings and without the Representatives even reading the bill?

Trump praises Australia's healthcare... which is single-payer

Hours after Republicans in the House of Representatives passed Trumpcare, in an attempt at repealing and replacing Obamacare, Donald Trump met with the Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, and literally said that Australia has better healthcare than the US.

This is what Trump said according to CNN:

"It's going to be fantastic health care," Trump said, referring to his new health care plan. "I shouldn't say this to our great gentleman and my friend from Australia because you have better health care than we do.

TRUMP LOSES: Trumpcare House bill will not be voted in the Senate

Right after the House of Representatives passed the American Health Care Act, and Donald Trump bragged about it, Senate Republicans said they will not vote the bill and, instead, they will work on their own healthcare bill.

Not only that; according to The Washington Examiner, the Republicans in the Senate said their own bill "will attempt to incorporate elements of the House bill, senators said, but will not take up the House bill as a starting point and change it through the amendment process."

Trump asks how many people lost their healthcare today and the answer is 24 million

Donald Trump tweeted this today:

It’s Thursday. How many people have lost their healthcare today?

The answer is 24 million Americans, which is the amount of people who will lose their healthcare with Trumpcare, narrowly passed today, according to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office.

DAY 105: Republicans in the House pass Trumpcare by a mere 2 votes... and stocks go down

By a mere 2 votes (217 yes, 193 no and 1 abstention), Republicans passed the American Health Care Act, also known as Trumpcare, thereby giving rich people a huge $1 trillion dollar tax cut and a huge increase in premiums for al Americans, but specially for people with pre-existing conditions.

But guess what? Right after the vote, the stock market saw a pretty big dive:

DAY 101: EPILOGUE: The day after, and we're back to square one

Nobody has ever complained about the the 100-day benchmark for a presidency before. The first one to complain about it, even though he made a whole bunch of promises for his first 100 days was Donald Trump. And he only complained about it after it was clear he would not have any achievements to brag about by day 100.

He wasn't the only one, though. In an interview with The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, NBC anchor Katy Tur said on April 27, 2017, two days before day 100, that the 100 day benchmark is an "artificial construct."

I disagree. The first 100 days in office do paint a picture not only of what the new administration will be like, but how the new administration learns from its mistakes and how the administration is willing to fix those mistakes.
