DAY 175: TRUMP LOSES: Judge strikes down Muslim ban's restriction on grandparents

A federal court in Hawaii ruled that the Trump administration's prohibition in the temporary Muslim ban on grandparents and extended family, such as cousins, is unconstitutional.

According to The New York Times:

A federal judge in Hawaii ruled late Thursday that the Trump administration’s temporary ban on travelers from six predominantly Muslim countries and on refugees should not prevent grandparents and other close relatives of residents from entering the United States.

The judge, Derrick K. Watson of Federal District Court in Honolulu, also declared that refugees with ties to a resettlement agency that was committed to receiving them had a relationship that made them eligible to enter the country.

As you may remember, the Supreme Court allowed a limited Muslim Ban while they hear the case in favor of the ban, but allowing close family into the country. The Trump administration, racist as usual, unilaterally declared grandparents, cousins, uncles, nieces, and aunts were not considered close family, but step-siblings would be considered close family.

The judge in Hawaii, however, struck down the White House's guidelines, so now grandparents and extended family can travel into the US. The Judge's ruling also allows thousands of refugees to enter the country simply because they had a prior relationship with a resettlement agency.

This the THIRD time Trump's attempt at a Muslim ban has been struck down in court.
