“He’s very, very good friends with Comey, which is very bothersome.”
And of course, Trump smeared Comey, but he did it in a way that attempted to justify his tweet suggesting Trump had tapes of Comey. He said:
“When he [Comey] found out that I, you know, that there may be tapes out there whether it’s governmental tapes or anything else and who knows, I think his story may have changed.”
No, it did not. Comey had memos of his meetings with Trump. The one who is actually changing his story is Trump, who first threatened Comey with tapes and now he's saying there aren't any tapes with some bullshit story to justify his 180.
By the way; Trump is 100% wrong when he tries to smear Mueller because he's friends with Comey. The investigation is not about Comey, but about Trump and how his campaign colluded with Russia to hack the 2016 election. The issue with Comey is evidence of obstruction of justices, yes, but Mueller's objective is not Comey, but the Trump campaign.
By the way: Fox News did its darnest to try to justify Trump. Just read to this curious paragraph from The New York Times on the interview:
When the Fox interviewer suggested that the possible existence of recordings might make sure Mr. Comey “stayed honest in those hearings,” Mr. Trump paused before responding, “Well, it wasn’t very stupid, I can tell you that.”
One has to wonder if Trump had another bullshit excuse for his threat to Comey and, by saying yes to Fox News's help, he might ruin its legal defense.
Regardless, the question is why is the following: If Trump truly did nothing wrong, why is he insisting so much on getting people to believe him? Wouldn't he be vindicated at the end of the Russia investigation if his campaign truly didn't collude with Russia?
Trump is simply spending too much time and effort on this for somebody who is supposed to be innocent.
