DAY 140: James Comey tells Senate Trump lied; He leaked Trump memos to trigger special counsel

During his testimony before the Senate, former FBI director James Comey revealed he was the one who asked a friend to leak one of his memos regarding his meetings with Donald Trump, and Trump's attempts to get Comey to end the Russia investigation. Comey added he did so in order to trigger a special counsel for the Russia investigation.

On top of that, Comey sid Trump lied and difamed him when Trump attacked comey after he fired him.

According to the New York Times:

• James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, testified that President Trump and others in his administration lied when they said agents had lost confidence in Mr. Comey.

...

Mr. Comey said Mr. Trump lied to the American public when he said that the F.B.I. was in disarray and that agents had lost confidence in Mr. Comey.

“Those were lies, plain and simple,” Mr. Comey said in brief opening remarks.

Trump, of course, threw a tantrum about it as Comey testified. But this time Trump didn't do it on Twitter, but in a gathering of religious conservatives. As the NYT says:

Mr. Trump recited Isaiah 1:17, then continued by saying that “entrenched interests” in Washington “will lie, they will obstruct, they will spread their hatred and their prejudice, but we will not back down from doing what is right.” “We know the truth will prevail,” he added. “Nothing worth doing ever came easy.”

And yes, Comey confirmed that Michael Flynn was under criminal investigation when he was fired by Trump:

In response to a question from Mr. Burr, Mr. Comey confirmed that Michael T. Flynn, the former national security adviser, was facing a criminal investigation at the time he was fired. That means he was under criminal investigation while serving as the national security adviser, a job that gave him ready access to the president and almost all the secret intelligence possessed by the country’s spy agencies.

And as you may recall, Trump asked Comey to stop investigating Flynn.

One really has to wonder: Why is Trump so interested in defending Flynn? Even after it was revealed that Flynn is in deep trouble because of his ties to Russia dn Turkey, the Trump administration continues to defend Flynn.

Does Flynn know something about Trump and Trump is afraid Flynn might say it?
