One week into office, Trump suggests he would violate the First Amendment

Donald Trump said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network that Christian refugees will have priority over refugees from other religions.

According to The Hill, when Trump was asked if he saw helping persecuted Christians abroad as a “priority,” Trump "promptly replied, 'yes.'"

But that would be a violation of the separation of church and state established by the First Amendment of the Constitution, as he would be acting to benefit a specific religion.

The Hill points out that "of the nearly 85,000 refugees admitted to the U.S. in fiscal 2016, 38,901 were Muslims, while 37,521 were Christians," meaning there wasn't an overhelming preference for either religion under Barack Obama.

Which means if Trump takes any actions that favors one religion over another, that action could be contested in court.
