DAY 208: Trump defends Confederacy monuments; Descendant of Sonewall Jackson calls for removal

After several Conferacy monuments were taken down in Baltimore, Donald Trump posted a series of tweets this morning defending the monuments. This a mere two days after he defended the alt-right and the nazis.

So let me see if I'm understanding this:

1. Trump claims it's "sad" to see the culture of the CONFEDERACY, which is the culture of slavery, being ripped apart.

2. He also claims the statues of the Confederacy are "beautiful."

3. He claims people can learn from Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson... who were traitors and defended slavery.

Well, guess what? Stonewall Jackson's great great grandsons just called for the removal of the Confederacy monuments in Virginia. According to The Slate, in a letter to the Mayor of Richmond, Willian Jackson Christian and Warren Edmund Christian wrote:

We are native Richmonders and also the great-great-grandsons of Stonewall Jackson. As two of the closest living relatives to Stonewall, we are writing today to ask for the removal of his statue, as well as the removal of all Confederate statues from Monument Avenue. They are overt symbols of racism and white supremacy, and the time is long overdue for them to depart from public display. Overnight, Baltimore has seen fit to take this action. Richmond should, too.

...

Last weekend, Charlottesville showed us unequivocally that Confederate statues offer pre-existing iconography for racists. The people who descended on Charlottesville last weekend were there to make a naked show of force for white supremacy. To them, the Robert E. Lee statue is a clear symbol of their hateful ideology. The Confederate statues on Monument Avenue are, too—especially Jackson, who faces north, supposedly as if to continue the fight.

So as you can see, even the descendants of Stonewall Jackson don't want statues of their great great grandfather and call them for what they are: symbols of racism and white supremacy.

As per the supposed concern for the "beauty" of the statues being taken down, Mother Jones showed Trump is a hypocrite. Because, guess what? In order to build Trump Tower in New York, Trump destroyed historic art.

To build his skyscraper, Trump first had to knock down the Bonwit Teller building, a luxurious limestone building erected in 1929. The face of the building featured two huge Art Deco friezes that the Metropolitan Museum of Art wanted to preserve. The museum asked Trump to save the sculptures and donate them, and the mogul agreed—as long as the cost of doing so wasn’t too high.

But then, according to journalist Harry Hurt III in his book Lost Tycoon, Trump discovered that taking out the sculptures would delay demolition by two weeks. He wasn’t willing to wait. “On his orders, the demolition workers cut up the grillwork with acetylene torches,” Hurt wrote. “Then they jackhammered the friezes, dislodged them with crowbars, and pushed the remains inside the building, where they fell to the floor and shattered in a million pieces.”

Preserve history? Yeah right. Trump doesn't care about that.

To make matters worse, the Republicans still don't have the balls to confront Trump. And Trump treats them like his bitches with tweets like this one:

Strange ended up in second place in the Republican primary. But even so, the Republicans won't confront Trump, thus becoming complicit in Trump's support for hate, bigotry and racism.
