DAY 297: Jeff Sessions confirms Trump wants a "whatabout" investigation on Hillary Clinton

Jeff Sessions testified before Congress for the second time about why he lied about his knowledge of the Trump campaign being in contact with Russian officials. Sessions, of course, claimed he did not "remember" the fact that he talked to Carter Page about his trip to Russia.

But then Sessions and the Republicans tried to change the subject to a non-issue. Sessions confirmed during his testimony what was revealed the previous day: that he had asked the Justice Department if a Special Counsel could be appointed to investigate Hillary Clinton because of the permission the Obama administration gave for the 2010 purchase of a uranium mining company by a Canadian company that was bought by Russia.

The problem is, there is nothing to inveatigate. The purchase was not authorized by Hillary Clinton alone, but by several federal agencies. Clinton alone could not have authorized the purchase.

Trump claims the Clinton campaign received money from Russia, but that's false. The Clinton Foundation, which is separate from the Clinton campaign, started receiving donations from Canadian company Uranium One in 2006, well before Russia took interest in the company. And Rosatom, the Russian government agency that eventually bought Uranium One never donated a since cent to the Clinton Foundation.

But Donald Trump has been using the Urunamium One non-issue as part of his "whatabout" strategy in a desperate attempt to try to deflect the very real evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. The fact that Trump is ordering an investigation into a non-issue (similar to his order to investigate non-existing voter fraud) simply make the "whatabout" rhetoric into policy.

Which is a waste of taxpayer money and resources not even for political gain, as the investigation would lead to nothing, but in a very dumb attempt at trying to get his poll numbers from falling even more.

To make things worse, by trying to make this investigation, Jeff Sessions is proving the Justice Department is NOT independent. Because, you see, Donald Trump essentially said on Twitter just a few days prior that he wanted this investigation:

Making Session's inquiries about a Special Counsel proof that what Trump wants is a dictatorship.
