But Trump's publicity stunt backfired, as nobody thought he was a hero. As a result, he threw a tantrum on Twitter:

Shoplifting is a very big deal in China, as it should be (5-10 years in jail), but not to father LaVar. Should have gotten his son out during my next trip to China instead. China told them why they were released. Very ungrateful!

Again; this was a very trite publicity stunt by Trump. What he obviously doesn't realize is the United States's government is obligated to aid its citizens abroad. He did NOTHING heroic. He did what he was supposed to do in the first place. But he wants an applause for doing what the's obligated to do.
And he made the whole thing even worse by bitching and moaning about it. Now he's starting to look like the racist he is once again.
