Trump takes credit for cutting regulations that were actually non-existent

Trump claimed today that he cut a hole bunch of federal regulations that were in fact cut by Barack Obama. According to Bloomberg:

The claim of victory in the war on regulation is instead based almost entirely on stopping proposed rules that haven’t yet made their way through the machinery of government. The White House says it has killed or stalled 860 pending regulations. It’s done this by withdrawing 469, listing another 109 as inactive and relegating 282 to “long term.”

A Bloomberg News review has found even those claims are exaggerated. Hundreds of the pending regulations had been effectively shelved before Trump took office. Others listed as withdrawn are actually still being developed by federal agencies. Still more were moot because the actions sought in a pending rule were already in effect.

DAY 327: Trump administration ends internet neutrality

The Trump administratio ended the internet neutrality rules that prohibited internet providers from charging more for access to specific content. Which means now internet providers will be able to charge more for access to Netflix or other streaming outlets.

There's no real reason to do that. The only reason why this is happening is because the FCC chair is a former internet provider industry lobbyist.

DAY 326: White House backtracks on Trump's denials of sexual harrassment because of photos

Donald Trump has been claiming he doesn't know the women who have accused him of sexual harassment, but after photos of Trump and the women he has harassed actually surfaced, the White House tried to clean up the mess by backtracking on the claims.

According to CNN:

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders qualified the comment during her daily press briefing, saying the President was only referring to the three women who appeared at a news conference Monday to reiterate their accusations against Trump.

Problem is, Trump never mentioned those women specifically. Here's the tweet with Trump's commen:

DAY 322: Trump lies about Black homeownership and the economy

Donald Trump lied in a Rally in Florida about Black homeownership hitting a record high under his administration. AP fact checked him:

In his Alabama-ish rally, President Donald Trump falsely stated that black homeownership has hit a record high under his stewardship and made the dubious claim that he set Canada’s prime minister straight on the state of trade between the two countries.

...

THE FACTS: Not true or even close.

The U.S. Census finds that the black homeownership rate peaked during 2004, when 49.7 percent of black households owned homes (the rate for all races that year reached 69.2 percent, also a modern record). The black homeownership rate stayed in similar territory until the recession, when it dropped to the mid-40s.

This year: 42.7 percent in the first quarter, 42.3 percent in the second and 42 percent in the third. That’s an uptick from last year but far from a record. Quarterly rates this year for the total U.S. population: 63.6 percent, 63.7 percent and 63.9 percent.

Donald Trump Jr claims client attorney privilege on Donald Trump, but neither of them is a lawyer

Donald Trump Jr. refused to answer questions from the Senate about the Russia collusion investigation claiming client-attorney privilege. Problem is, neither him nor Trump are lawyers.

According to Politico:

Donald Trump Jr. on Wednesday cited attorney-client privilege to avoid telling lawmakers about a conversation he had with his father, President Donald Trump, after news broke this summer that the younger Trump — and top campaign brass — had met with Russia-connected individuals in Trump Tower during the 2016 campaign.

Though neither Trump Jr. nor the president is an attorney, Trump Jr. told the House Intelligence Committee that there was a lawyer in the room during the discussion, according to the committee’s top Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff of California. Schiff said he didn’t think it was a legitimate invocation of attorney-client privilege.

DAY 318: Robert Mueller is probing the Trumps' bank accounts

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is asked Deutsche Bank for information on the bank accounts of Donald Trump and his family as part of the Russia investigation. According to Reuters:

Germany's largest bank received a subpoena from Special Counsel Robert Mueller several weeks ago to provide information on certain money and credit transactions, the person said, without giving details, adding that key documents had been handed over in the meantime.

Deutsche Bank has lent the Trump Organization hundreds of millions of dollars for real estate ventures and is one of the few major lenders that has given large amounts of credit to Trump in the past decade. A string of bankruptcies at his hotel and casino businesses during the 1990s made most of Wall Street wary of extending him credit.

DAY 314: Michael Flynn pleads guilty to lying to the FBI about Russia

Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. According to The New York Times, this is part of the Robert Mueller investigation and it refers to a conversation Flynn had with the Russian ambassador before Trump took office. That is the same conversation he lied about to Mike Pence:

President Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to the F.B.I. about conversations with the Russian ambassador last December, becoming the first senior White House official to cut a cooperation deal in the special counsel’s wide-ranging inquiry into election interference.

Mr. Flynn’s discussions with Sergey I. Kislyak, the Russian ambassador, were part of a coordinated effort by Mr. Trump’s aides to create foreign policy before they were in power, documents released as part of Mr. Flynn’s plea agreement show. Their efforts undermined the existing policy of President Barack Obama and flouted a warning from a senior Obama administration official to stop meddling in foreign affairs before the inauguration.

But there's more.
